Pea harvest almost over -- was pretty puny this year

I must not have planted as many peas as last year -- this year's pea harvest seems to puny.  But, Scooter enjoyed sharing the harvest with me.

First peas and carrot harvested -- not the best-tasting

The peas weren't very sweet -- pretty bland actually...

The carrot was a test pull -- a decent size (but will let the others keep growing for a while yet) -- but again not sweet -- edible for sure, but not the best.

Pea harvest has been great, but will draw to a close soon

Not seeing any new flowers, so it looks like the end is near.  But it was a great harvest, tons of peas.

These peas are delicious!! So sweet and flavourful

No idea why this year's peas are so good -- they're the same as I've grown in the past.  But dang they are GOOD!

Powdery mildew never bothered the peas; I removed the pea plants today

The powdery mildew that I first noticed on the peas on June 23rd gradually spread up to cover pretty much the whole pea plants, but it never affected harvest at all.  In fact it was a bumper harvest, very roughly 6 or 8 pints or so, which is plenty for my needs and I was able to share some too.

I pulled all of the pea plants today, and with that another couple of cups of final harvest.  This will improve air circulation in the area, and allow sunlight through to the recently sowed buckwheat along the north wall.

Several zucchini and the cushaw are are all close in that area -- not seeing PM on them yet, but I wonder if they'll be among the first to show it...

Another great pea harvest today; will soon be over

So many peas this year, it was great, lots to share.  There will be another smaller harvest to finish them off soon.

Bumper pea harvest (without innoculant)

2 litres harvested today, a bunch harvested a couple days ago too.  The plants are about 8 feet tall and some stems have started to topple over.

This great crop was without the help of any innoculant (the store didn't have any this year).  Maybe the peas really like all the nitrogen in the alfalfa?

Pea harvest going great

I had put "lots" of alfalfa pellets and kelp meal when transplanting.  Looks like peas were happy with it (unlike the poor zucchinis and tomatoes).

Pea harvest coming to an end soon? No new flowers

Yesterday and today were very good harvests, and there will be a few more days are more come to maturity, but it looks like the end is near given the lack of new flowers.  Prior to this harvest was just a few here and there, so, this seems to be a shorter harvest than last year.  Last year I wrote that harvest was in full swing July 6th, then by July 18th harvest was mostly over.

Maybe I haven't been watering enough during this dry weather.

Pea harvest has been ongoing (spring planting)

Still getting a small handful of peas every day or two or three.  Haven't pulled the plants because the vertical butternut are intermingled with them.

Pea harvest pretty much over

Just a few last peas on the vine to grow a little more, then it will be over.  Vines have started dying.

It was a good harvest.  Scooter enjoyed it too.

Pea harvest in full swing

Pea harvest has been in full swing the past week or so.

Seems to be two different kinds of snap peas:  a lighter green which is less sweet (icicle?) and darker green more sweet (typical sugar snap?).

Fall peas were small and few

Better than last year when they seemed diseased; this year just small, not a lot, and not very flavourful.  Not really worth doing, especially the cost of peat pots.

Maybe don't do fall peas next year.

Pea harvest almost over

Decent pea harvest the past couple of weeks.  Almost done now, just some stragglers left.

Harvest was snacking-volume only, not enough to store or give away.  Consider trying two pea trellises next year.

Fall pea harvest

First fall peas harvested about a week ago, and a few more pods harvested every few days since then, which will probably continue for a another week at most.

Nowhere near as tasty or high yield as spring crop.  And, now many pods have a sickly look, something going on with their outside, but the peas inside are good.  Shame though to have to toss all those pod exteriors.

A year or two ago the fall peas were a great harvest.  Oh well!
