Hummingbird eating from wild evening primrose flowers!!

Happened to look out the window at the right time and saw a hummingbird flitting from flower to flower among the wild evening primrose!  Very cool, didn't know they like that.  The yard also has zinnias (which I've seen them eat from in past years) and scarlet runner bean flowers currently, so hopefully lots to attract them back.

While refilling the bird bath this afternoon, what did I see but a hummingbird swoop in on the zinnia patch next to the fence, then immediately swoop out of the yard when they saw I was there.  So, very fleeting, but neat!

Soooooooo cool!  Happened to see today while sitting at the computer in the kitchen during lunch break.  Ate for a few minutes from the central bed's zinnias!  Then moved on to check out the black-eyed susans, but didn't like those.  So fun to watch!  Looks like a little green shimmery mermaid. 

I saw one very briefly a year or two ago as well, drinking from the zinnias.

OMG OMG OMG!  I can probably count the number of times I've seen a hummingbird on one finger (and that was in the Greenbelt).  Well, make that two fingers as of today!  I heard a bird chirping in the yard, that was the woodpecker eating a sunflower.  But then -- I saw the hummingbird!  Emerald green, though not especially showy.  Eating from the backyard zinnias!  So neat.  Showed some interest in the sunflower too, especially when the woodpecker was chirping, but then went back to the zinnias.
