GA: FOY cucumber -- several more on the way -- BUT LOOKS LIKE DISEASE MAY BE STARTING

Wow, this is the first year of my three at GA that the cukes have looked good!  Today got my first cuke.  

However, some leaves at the bottom are turning brown/crispy... and some are wilting.... So I fear disease will be taking over!

Will see how many cukes I get...

FOY cucumbers! ** Finally ** (allotment)

The allotment cukes were the first to give a harvest.  2 harvested today.

Sadly, no tomatoes to go with them!!

First two cucumbers (Eureka) harvested!  There have been tons of male and female flowers, but I haven't tried hand-pollinating and apparently the critters haven't been doing much of it either.  But anyway one or two a week is plenty for me.

Last (probably) cuke harvested -- for total of ~5 or 6 fall cuke harvest

This cuke could have used another week or so to finish filling out, but more cold nights happening so harvested now just in case.

A couple of other cukes took, but with the cold nights are growing soooooo slowly, so I'm not sure if they'll make it.

I'd say my fall cuke experiment was a success!  A sparse/limited success, but still worthwhile.  The vines were never very healthy, but they produced.

Cuke fall crop harvest began! 61 days from sow to first harvest

One of the Eureka cucumber plants that was sowed in the pot on July 22nd, whose female I pollinated on Sep 5th, I harvested today!  That makes 61 days from sowing to first harvest.

I'm seeing at least 3 more that took, but all in the west bed, should be ready within a week or so.  The pot plants aren't looking too great, but, we'll see.

Removed cucumbers (diseased) and several more zucchinis (unproductive / clutter re: rat)

The cucumbers had a great run, huge harvest so I can't complain that the vines have been dying in the past few weeks, looks like some kind of disease (maybe what they had last year?  haven't compared photos).  So I removed them completely today, along with a final harvest of cucumbers.

Removed all 3 of the remaining zucchini plants in the north bed.  None of them had ever produced anything nor looked like they would do anything, plus today I noticed a tunnel where a rat dug near the compost bin, so I did a big clean-up / decluttering of that area.  Maybe SVB sign in one, but not the others though  I didn't look all that closely.

A few days ago I started noticing some crispy cucumber leaves.  There seem to be a few more now.  I imagine it will spread to all of the cucumber plants and their days are likely limited.  I don't mind too much, though it would be nice of some of the tomatoes and some of the cucumbers could coordinate themselves and be ready at the same time!

It has been a good cucumber harvest.  About 8 in the fridge today, and have eaten / given away probably around 10 or 12 so far.  This is with 6 cucumber plants.

I have 4 or 5 cucumbers in the fridge that I'm not sure when I'll have a chance to eat them all, so I decided to try this tip from Susan Mulvihill.  Simply wrapping them in dry paper towel or dish towels (I did two of each), placing them into a plastic bag, then placing into the fridge.

Hoping they'll keep until some of the tomatoes are ready!

Many cucumbers have taken; harvesting some early

Not sure if I have the cucumber beetles to thank, but there's a nice half dozen or so cucumbers coming along.  Harvested a couple already even though not fully grown, to have with hummus.

A cucumber took!  There have been lots of females and males, so I was wondering when the show was going to get started.  This one had some more growing to do, but I harvested it now because the garden will be untended for a few days.

Yup, just a few last immature cucumbers on there that might make it or might not.  The leaves of the entire plant are crispy and diseased.  Oh well, at least there was a good harvest.

Cucumbers starting to produce well

The cucumbers are finally starting to produce well.  Have harvested 2 so far, and several more nice ones on the way.

The zukes were still nowhere to be seen, so I dug around and they seem to not have done anything.  Also the soil was dry, so maybe everything dried out.  So, bought new zuke seeds and sowed them today  into the same pots, 2 new seeds per pot (and the old seeds still in there too).

Cucumber harvest has started, about 3 so far in the last few weeks.  The vines are fairly sparse at this point, but at least they are producing something.

Finally harvested the first cucumber today.  There appears to be one more which should be ready within a week or so.  There have been lots of male and female flowers, but not many takers.  Tried handpollinating at first several weeks ago, but for some reason couldn't get any pollen from the males.  Oh well, we'll see how it goes.
