GA/BY: Harvest so far (seems puny)

Here's what's been harvested so far this year:

kale
chard
broccoli (including a nice head of Belstar tonight)
basil (not a lot though)
stevia
peppers -- mostly jalapeno or hungarian sweet, not a ton -- and all pepper plants look kinda pathetic
garlic scapes from the few garlics that produced scapes

No zucchini yet, though looking at last year the first was July 4th, and this year a few are on the way so it's not that far behind.

First basil harvest (/pruning)

A nice harvest with the first pruning of these 18 plants!  Had them on noodles with nutritional yeast and onion top trimmings.

Basil started rotting in the fridge after only a day or two!?!?

So weird.  A couple of days ago I harvested some basil; didn't wash it, just put it into a plastic container in the fridge.  Then today when I went to use it, several leaves had turned black / rot-y.  Most of it was fine, so I tossed the bad ones (and won't return them to the yard).  Not sure why this happened -- the plants in the garden look fine.

Things are going gangbusters overall!  Today's harvest:

zucchini (5th of the year)

kale (tons)

chard (tons)

dill (a few sprigs)

basil (lots)

stevia (good amount(

carrot (a bit too early)

Basils have yellow powder on underside of leaves -- what could it be? & harvested/pruned

Hmmm...  The plants look super nice and green on the upper sides, but noticed today while pruning/harvesting that most leaves have subtle patches of yellow powder.  Sort of reminds me of last year's downy mildew except totally the wrong colour, and not fuzzy.

Oh well, it washed off well, so fingers crossed!

It's on both varieties -- the hybrid I'm trying for the first time that's DM-resistant, and the classic Genovese that I bought from the store.

Great basil harvest -- lots of pesto

Admittedly I typed this entry retro-actively, to make note of this great harvest a week before noticing the downy mildew in mid-July.  Made several jars of pesto with this batch.

Basil/parsley harvest, made pesto -- &, basil leaves curly and weird

Yum.

However, all the basil in the west bed, the newest growth is curly and weird looking.  The ones in the container look fine.

Pruned most of the other not-yet-pruned basils

And another nice harvest out of that!

Deliciousssssss on noodles with margarine and salt.

Basil harvest while pruning! Yum

Quite a nice basil harvest while pruning!  The plants are doing quite well so far, looking vigorous, knock on wood.

Pruned most of the basils, but left a few unpruned for comparison.
